Case Study: Tourism Australia

Overview

The Endeavour Aussie Specialist program is the successor of the highly successful Legacy system. As previously mentioned the existing Legacy system has been active for eight years and over this time it has become a very successful tool for promoting Australia. It was decided that the Program needed an overhaul both technically and for the content that exists within the site. leighton have been successful in securing the contract for developing the new site which is re-written in C# using the .net framework making it a more secure, robust and stable e-learning platform. The system is built from scratch with a bespoke content management system and an e-learning system that will support upwards of 70,000 international users in over 21 different languages.

Tourism Australia has learnt from experience that once an agent becomes a specialist, new features and updates are required to encourage them to continue to revisit the site. leighton has been essential in helping with generating new ideas to incentivise agents to revisit the program such as up-to-date news and events, specialized post-login user information and a more engaging method of learning which includes embedded questions and interactive learning features within modules.

Objective

A website that functions as the customer portal and where the (incumbent) Aussie Specialist can login and access specific information. This website is structured on a regional and language basis. A Customer Self Service solution integrated into Tourism Australia’s CRM system that at the front end lets Aussie Specialists manage their contact details and at the back end let’s Tourism Australia administrators control access and manage certification levels.

A Learning Management Solution (LMS) linked and integrated to the Website and Customer Self Service where Aussie Specialists can obtain the required knowledge and do their exams to acquire their certification. This solution will included additional courses and courses provided by industry partners via Tourism Australia.

CMS

Throughout its lifecycle, the Legacy Aussie Specialist Program’s content management system (CMS) grew as new features and additions were required. The Endeavour site has a completely new bespoke CMS built from scratch containing everything required to:

  • Create new pages
  • Add menu items
  • Manage news and even
  • Manage advertisement banners
  • Add / remove / edit modules
  • Manage images via the image gallery
  • Manage questions and question pools

The development of such a finely tuned tailor-made solution gives Tourism Australia the ability to expand the system with ease and intuitiveness.

Reporting

The ability for Tourism Australia to generate reports automatically is a crucial feature for the new Aussie Specialist site. leighton has created a ‘Reports Manager’ that allows an administrator to automatically generate reports based on user/agent data such as:

  • How many agents have signed up to the ASP
  • How many agents are qualified
  • How many premier agents exist

The reports are intuitively divided in to regions and further divided in to countries within regions. The ability to generate reports is a key performance indicator for Tourism Australia as a business.
