The Aussie Specialist qualification is an online course where retail travel agents can access training, resources and knowledge required to sell Australia as a holiday destination with confidence.

Having built the first digital version of the Aussie Specialist programme, Leighton were delighted to be selected to redesign and re-engineer the e-learning platform for a larger worldwide rollout of the programme.

The Solution

From the outset Leighton and Tourism Australia shared a vision for a user journey that was clean, clear and intuitive to ensure minimum frustration and maximum buy in from users. Leighton set about delivering a solution that prioritises usability and takes candidates smoothly through a core set of training modules and a final exam. Research played a key role in building a highly intuitive system whilst testing the solution with real candidates helped us create the perfect online experience for users signing up to the programme.

The Impact

Following the completion of our redesign an independent study from the University of Lugano, Switzerland found that 67% of travel professionals claimed to have sold at least one destination package to Australia within days of their qualification as an Aussie Specialist.

Tourism Australia’s Aussie Specialist Program was recently ranked as the Number 1 tourism education course in the world, ahead of Dubai, Mauritius and the Caribbean. The program is now available in 21 different languages and is used in 110 countries worldwide.
