Delivering a truly flexible, tailored service to clients has never been more important than it is now in the digital age. When an opportunity came up for one of our team to move to London to support one of our key clients, we were delighted to see one our talented designers, Kevin Potts, take up the opportunity to share his skills and experience with an in-house UX team.
Three months in, we caught up with Kevin to see how he’s getting on. Here are his first impressions:
“I’m absolutely loving what I’m doing. I like the international “big brand” prestige that consumers associate with the company and I’m really enjoying supporting the growth of that reputation.
At first, I was a little nervous about moving to the ‘Big Smoke’ but being based with the client, I have learnt so much already and am really enjoying every aspect of my role within the UX team.
As I’m working with the client and representing Leighton, I’ve naturally taken on more responsibility but essentially my role hasn’t changed too much from the day to day work I was doing back at Leighton’s Northern base. My priority remains the delivery of high quality design and intuitive user experience.”
“I’m currently working with a team of internal UX Designers. We’re working on the new design for a personalised members homepage, which is a massive project. We’re delivering solutions that could prove to be the future of how consumer facing brands target their customers with dynamic and personalised content.”
A typical day…
“At the minute, I am in a bit of fitness kick as I’m in training for the Great North Run so I’ll generally fit a run in somewhere or hit the gym before heading to the office.
I’m working within a really dynamic, process driven team where everyone is focused on delivering the project to the high standard required by the business, so we have daily catch ups with the UX team then split the work up between everyone.
I have worked on the account for about 2 years now and so understand the values and standards that they insist upon, which has been really useful for me but nothing compares to being with the client day in, day out.
Despite being home to over 6000 members of staff, their headquarters offer a nice friendly atmosphere while their other London office is really cool, with a company heritage museum and various iconic pieces of memorabilia in the main reception offering a reminder of the scale and history of the business.”
Life in London
“My favourite thing about London is the culture and atmosphere of the place, there is so much to see and do. Although many people see London as a concrete jungle, I’ve found some really nice, greener parts to London. Like, Richmond Park or ‘leafy’ Richmond and Chiswick, they’re really nice on sunny days with bars and restaurants dotted along the riverside.
At the minute, sunny days in London are also one of my favourite things, with it having about 5 degrees on Newcastle, which is definitely a bonus!”
Leighton is delighted that the feedback we’ve had on Kevin’s input so far has been very positive. On this, Leighton CEO Lyle McCalmont said: “I’m pleased that Kevin has settled so quickly into life in London and I’m not surprised he’s proving to be such a valuable asset to the client. Providing a high level of service to all of our clients is very important to Leighton.”
