Amazon Web Services (AWS) are backing the return of AWS North Community Conference – alongside a number of other regional supporters – demonstrating their commitment to supporting the North East’s growing technology sector and bringing its tech community together.
Alongside AWS, CGI, Scott Logic and TrueNorth have joined Leighton, which founded and organised AWS North, as sponsors of the one-day conference, which will take place at The Baltic in Gateshead on Thursday 15 October 2026.
Created to support the expanding technology sector across the North of England, the AWS North Community Conference provides a platform for developers, engineers, businesses and technology leaders to share knowledge, explore emerging technologies and build connections within the regional tech community.
The backing of five well-established businesses highlights the importance of collaboration between organisations in supporting the North East’s technology ecosystem, creating opportunities for local talent and helping businesses across the region make the most of cloud computing and digital innovation.
Colin Eberhardt, CTO at Scott Logic said: “The North East has a fantastic technology community, and events like AWS North play an important role in bringing people together to share ideas and explore how technology is evolving. At Scott Logic, we’ve always valued that kind of open exchange, especially when it's in our home city of Newcastle, so we’re really pleased to support this year's conference. I’m also looking forward to being part of the speaker line-up and joining some great conversations around the future of software engineering and AI.”
The conference will bring together AWS practitioners, technical experts and thought leaders from across the UK and beyond to explore the latest developments in cloud technology, modernisation, migration, serverless computing and artificial intelligence.
Usman Shahid, Associate Director at TrueNorth said: “At TrueNorth, we believe the tech sector is at its strongest when its people come together to share ideas, build relationships and learn from one another. We’re proud to sponsor AWS North Community Conference and support an event that brings some of the region’s brightest technology leaders, developers and innovators together. It closely reflects our own commitment to strengthening the local tech communities in the areas we serve, and creating more opportunities for its people and businesses to thrive.”
The inaugural event in 2025 attracted more than 150 attendees, including 24 speakers and six AWS Heroes, with participants travelling from across the world to share insights and discuss how AWS is changing the way organisations build, innovate and scale software solutions.
This year’s conference aims to build on that success, giving the North’s technology community the opportunity to learn from industry experts, exchange ideas and develop relationships without having to travel outside the region.
The event is being shaped by some of the North East’s leading AWS advocates, including AWS Community Builder, Steve Morland, AWS Serverless Hero and Leighton’s AWS Practice Lead Lee Gilmore, Principal Solutions Architect Mark Sailes, and AWS User Group Leader and Solutions Architect Dan Pudwell.
Claire Cundill, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Leighton, said: “The North East has a thriving technology community, with talented people and ambitious businesses doing exciting things with cloud technology. Bringing organisations together to share knowledge and experience is an important part of helping that community continue to grow.
“We’re delighted to have AWS, CGI, Scott Logic and TrueNorth on board alongside Leighton. Their support reflects a shared commitment to the region and to creating opportunities for people and businesses working across the technology sector.
“Last year’s conference was a fantastic success, with a 100% satisfaction rate among respondents to our feedback survey and more than 92% saying they planned to return. We’re looking forward to building on that response and delivering another valuable day for the community.”
Over the course of the day, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from speakers working across the AWS ecosystem, explore practical approaches to solving technology challenges and connect with peers from across the region. The full agenda is now live and can be accessed here. The conference is designed for a broad audience, including technology businesses, SMEs, developers, engineers, industry leaders, academics and students.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased via Eventbrite. As part of AWS North’s commitment to making the conference as accessible as possible, a social impact ticket allocation is also available for underrepresented groups, not-for-profit organisations, students and those early in their careers.
